NAME: Deimos
CANON: Starfighter
AGE: 23
CANON POINT: After his arrest in chapter five.

HISTORY: The Starfighter wiki is sadly lacking in history for characters so I'm going to try to make Deimos' history as concise as possible so we can get to the personality of this app.

The premise of Starfighter can be summarized as a boy love comic that takes place in Space. A more in-depth premise is that a military group known as the Alliance is on an assignment to keep Earth and her colonies safe from an alien threat known as the Colteron. They employ starfighters, a duo consisting of one fighter (in charge of weapons and fighting) and a navigator (in charge of navigating the ship and mission objectives), who both take on codenames and use those names to refer to themselves and each other. Navigators are typically from Earth (which is seen as fancy and well-off), and fighters come from the Colonies (seen as poor, hellhole places) which becomes important in the dynamics of the universe as many navigators view fighters as a pack of wild dogs who fight each other for dominance and fighters see navigators as weak and people they need to be nice to to pilot their ships.

The story primarily takes place through the perspective and experience of Abel, a new navigator who just been assigned to Cain. It tells how Cain seduces Abel, and the challenges they face in their relationship as well as the obstacles in their lives via their military involvement, as well as the stark differences of their backgrounds (Earth vs. Mars). Deimos plays a central role in this tale of seduction primarily as Cain's lapdog with an important mission; trailing Abel when he's not with Cain.

Honestly, I could say there isn't much more history to detail with Deimos despite being such a pivotal character. For the most part of the series he's seen in the shadows doing Cain's dirty work and doesn't speak up much, if at all, and holds a unrequited crush on Cain. But his crush on Cain doesn't make him a rival love interest as Cain has no interest in romance. So what exactly makes Deimos a pivotal character in this story?

For starters, his role as Cain's lapdog gives him a unique position in which he can watch Cain fall in love with Abel, serving as a truthful wake-up call for the former. Deimos has been with Cain since they both started training to be fighters and it is greatly implied that Deimos has been following Cain's first two navigators who failed for various reasons. Since he's pretty close to Cain, he was able to observe that Cain didn't have any feelings for his previous two navigators. So when he observes a change in attitude with Cain regarding his third navigator (Abel), Deimos is in the perfect position to get Cain to see the truth.

We can see the impact this has on Deimos from the moment Cain told him that they were going to sit with the navigators because Deimos gets to be personal with Abel (in his quiet way) and watch how Cain and Abel dote on each other. It's different from the other navigators, Deimos claims, because Cain actually cares about Abel's well-being and refers to Abel by codename rather than by "my navigator." A hurt Deimos, after remembering how he met Cain, confronts Cain with this knowledge, visibly hurt because he assumed that Cain would eventually fall for him. (After all, they're both from the colonies, Deimos has faithfully done everything Cain has said, and Cain promised that they were a team.) When Cain rebukes Deimos last attempt to get together, Deimos calls off their partnership- saying that he's done doing this because Cain had changed. Thus getting Cain to acknowledge that he actually has feelings for Abel. This marks a shift in the story whereas before only Abel was thinking of their relationship in terms of romance and now Cain might as well.

The other impact Deimos has on the story is, well, getting Abel to stop thinking the relationship he has with Cain is about romance. In a fit of emotional revenge after breaking up his loyalties with Cain, Deimos teams up with his own navigator (Phobos) to exact revenge on Abel. The two force Abel to follow them and reveal to him the truth about Project Thebes and, perhaps most importantly, that Cain's 'love' for Abel was all because he was ordered to do what he did for the project. That Abel's and Cain's love was contrived and not real. Thus damaging Cain and Abel's relationship pretty severely (Abel later breaks it off with Cain after a confrontation with the other.)

Currently the series is ongoing and while we don't know the long-term damage his actions will have on Cain and Abel as the two make their escape from the Alliance, we do know that somewhere between telling Abel and Abel writing Cain off- Deimos has had a change of heart and to help them escape by shooting their pursuers. Cain and Abel were successfully able to board their ship, leaving Deimos behind to face arrest. Right now Deimos fate is unknown but he will surely face charges for treason.

It was revealed in a flashback, that Deimos reason for being so loyal to Cain is that he was saved by Cain from being ganged up on by three other fighters. The two managed to escape a fight after Deimos stabbed a man in the arm. Deimos then proceeded to stalk Cain, replenishing his lost cigarettes and spying on where he went. Cain noticed his stealthy endeavors and cornered him to ask Deimos for his help because he saw his sneakiness and knack for navigating the ship as beneficial to his mission. Deimos agreed because he was infatuated by Cain and hoped that their partnership would become something else.
PERSONALITY: It's quite easy to say that there isn't much to Deimos personality or that he's simply a quiet person willing to do Cain's bidding. But what Deimos doesn't say, he shows with his actions and body language. He's observant, loyal to a fault, and a bit obsessive.

Let's get the biggest characteristic of Deimos personality out of the way and that is his quietness. It's hard to say exactly why Deimos is quiet. He's capable of speaking and when he does speak, he's straight to the point or extremely insightful to the conversation he just has a preference for using his body language is all. Even from the very first introduction of Deimos, it's made clear that he prefers to use his body language when he gives Praxis a knowing look for trying to talk to Abel (no one is allowed to interact with Cain's navigator), or how easily he threatens another fighter with his butterfly knife to show he isn't interested in a hookup.

Cain once claimed that Deimos isn't good at talking and it's pretty clear that Deimos does have a hard time talking when he does engage in conversation; often visibly struggling to speak by nervously fidgeting, swallowing, or clinging closer so he doesn't have to raise his voice above a whisper. Possibly the best example of this is when he reports to Cain that Praxis was talking to Abel, Deimos nodded his head until he was pressed for an answer from Cain. He gives a verbal answer rasping out "I saw them speaking together." But he doesn't speak without looking embarrassed beforehand or clinging onto Cain.

Speaking of clinging onto Cain, Deimos is not shy about his obsession with Cain. He's often seen clinging or grabbing onto the other, much to Cain's displeasure. Heck, he's even thinking about their partnership while he watches two other fighters get it on in the shower and his feelings for Cain. Right before breaking off their partnership, Deimos even tried to forcefully kiss Cain to assert his feelings, claiming that it was only right for them to be together because they were both fighters and from the colonies. Previously, rejection from Cain was just something Deimos deals with until he realized that Cain has feelings for Abel. Then the obsession turned into jealousy.

It's with jealousy that Deimos exhibits that ultimately betrays Cain by revealing Project Thebes to Abel thus ruining the romance between the two. But he doesn't do it out of malicious intent like his navigator does as Deimos does try to offer Abel some small comforts. (Telling his navigator to knock it off when Abel starts to cry from the news and trying to offer Abel some kind words about how Cain wasn't worth it.) Prior to the changed feelings though, Deimos was extremely loyal to Cain.

He is loyal to a fault to Cain, willing to do Cain's dirty work and willing to be the object of Cain's anger. In his first scene with Cain, we see that in the way that Deimos immediately reports to Cain after warning Praxis off from Abel with a look. He's been told to keep tabs on Cain from all angles of Cain's life whether it be from Abel, their commanders, or other fighters. When he told Cain of Praxis "talking to Abel" we see a brief flash of fear in Deimos eyes between the two fighters (perhaps it's how close he's clinging or that he knows Cain's anger and brashness) before being thrown to the ground. In this moment, Deimos flinches and fully expects Cain to kick him while he's down and he actually looks a little dejected when Cain leaves him alone to deal with Praxis. This could be their power dynamic in that Cain had repeatedly told Deimos to knock off his clingy tendencies or it could just be Deimos loyalty. Perhaps it was just Deimos being a pushover because it's implied with his relationship to Cain and the rocky relationship with his own navigator that he let's others decide for him what to do. (Cain speaks for him while his own navigator tried to force him to stop eating at the navigators table with Cain, Abel, and Ethos in the same scene.)

Deimos is also observant. As stated in the history section, Deimos was the one to notice that Cain's feelings for Abel were romantic ones. A large part of his observation skills probably deal with his gift for stealth and his preference for communication via body language. But he is diligent in his observations, noticing when Praxis tried to talk to Abel or when Abel obviously couldn't handle any more scolding from Phobos after the truth about Project Thebes came out. In the video game, Starfighter: Eclipse, Deimos also noticed that Abel's behavior was odd and tried to stop his evil plans from being realized. Thanks to his diligence and care for Cain, he and Helios were able to stop Abel if you pursue the Deimos story route.

Lastly, Deimos is caring. If we disregard the developed jealousy for a moment, Deimos really does care about Cain (and later- Abel). He went out of his way to replace Cain's cigarettes that got lost when Cain stood up for him and though that may be largely due to his crush, he does care to a degree. Even with the bitterness from breaking off with Cain, he doesn't want to actively hurt Abel either. Perhaps Deimos wanted everyone to turn on Cain in that moment because he felt betrayed by Cain. Regardless he does seem to care about Abel and Cain because he showed up (even after damaging their relationship) to help them escape.
CRAU: N/A

SPECIES: Human
APPEARANCE: Deimos
SKILLS: SKILLS: Military trained in weapons and combat as well as ship-guns. Hand-to-hand combat. Knife skills (specifically butterfly knives). Probably has some knowledge about space survival considering they're fighting a war in space. Capable of doing minor ship repair. Stealth and stalking; figuring out how to navigate places unseen and spy on people. Fluent in Russian and English even though he doesn't talk much. Otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.

NEW POWER: Shadow Jumping; Basically the ability to merge into the shadows and travel via shadows/darkness. Shadow Jumping doesn't necessary mean he'd have to move around in the dark, it could even be used to hide in the dark to spy on people! This power only works in dark settings or if shadows are nearby so light would be a natural balance to this power. At the starting level this power would express itself as limited invisibility without being able to merge into the shadows or move between them. (Think of it almost like a chameleon using camouflage!) Once he figures out that he can move into the shadows, I think the next limitation would be how long he can stay in the shadows.
POWER REASONING: This fits Deimos' personality and self because in the Starfighter series he is always in the shadows. Not only that but he has a tendency to follow or 'shadow' people and I wanted to give him a power that was reflective of this.
